Natural history: There are 23 species of cricket in the UK. The best way to tell a cricket from a grasshopper is their larger body size and long antennae. Crickets make a chirping sound by rubbing their wings together. They mostly eat plants but may also eat other insects and are most active at dusk.

Observation Tips: Look out for the strong hind legs and long antennae.
