Crane fly

Natural history: Crane flies are a family of fly and there are around 300 species found in the UK. They have thin bodies and long legs which is why they are often called ‘daddy longlegs’. This term can also refer to spiders and harvestmen. Once a mature adult, crane flies only live for around 2 weeks.

Observation Tips: Look out for the long thin body and 6 legs. They have a single pair of wings.
