Squirrel Monitoring

Squirrel monitoring is conducted to assess the occurrence and prevalence of both Red and Grey Squirrels with camera-traps, with a view to conserving our native Red Squirrel. Often the camera traps will be used in conjunction with a hopper containing food bait, but this is not always the case. Lots of other species may also be recorded, and it is hoped to gather evidence of the expansion of the range of Pine Martens. Camera trapping for squirrels often involves elevated camera placements and, as a result, typically reveals a different part of the community to that which features in other camera trap pictures.
