Earwig

Natural history: Earwigs are a type of insect and there are only 4 native species in the UK. They tend to hide during the day and come out at night where they mostly eat bits of plants. Earwigs are unusual insects because mother earwigs actually look after their eggs and the nymphs that hatch from them until they can look after themselves.

Observation Tips: Look out for the two pincers at the bottom of their body as well as their 6 legs and long antennae.
