Bivalve

Natural history: Bivalve means “two-valves” which refer to the two parts of the shell that house the animal inside. Bivalves include oysters, clams, mussels, and many more shelled species. They have been around for more than 500 million years and most are filter-feeders, eating small bits of food in the ocean.

Observation Tips: Look out for shells! You probably won’t see the squishy animal inside!
