Species: Tawny mining bee
Scientific name: Andrena fulva
Appearance: The female is covered in fox-red hair, males are more golden or reddish-brown. Its head is black.
Size: Up to 1.2cm long.
Natural History: A solitary bee that builds a nest into the ground and lives around short plants and grasses. Although solitary, these mining bees can be seen nesting in large groups. It is seen flying in spring months.
