The cameras are used not only to detect species, but to also check for possible signs of squirrel pox in red squirrels. In early 2024 we had a single outbreak of squirrelpox in Dunfermline, Fife and we have been monitoring squirrel health closely to check of any signs of spread. Luckily, we haven't found any further signs yet, but checking camera images where possible is helpful. In some areas we collect thousands of images of squirrels and other species in a matter of a couple weeks and it would be extremely helpful for volunteers to help check images captured for us. We also welcome volunteers on the ground. If you are interested in getting involved please email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
