The project engaged local schools in camera trapping across the northeast to help understand the wildlife on their doorstep.
This project is available for public Spotting but Trapping is restricted. If you would like to join this project as a Trapper please contact us at info@mammalweb.org.
The project engaged local schools in camera trapping across the northeast to help understand the wildlife on their doorstep as part of the activities for 'Dippy on Tour'.
'Dippy on Tour' saw the Natural History Museum’s famous Diplodocus visit Newcastle's Great North Museum Hancock from May-October 2019. The tour encouraged families to "explore nature on their doorstep" and MammalWeb helped to develop the Natural Northumbria exhibit to allow visitors to classify MammalWeb photos and to facilitate an educational and outreach programme. Working with 50 partner schools across the northeast we aimed to understand the wildlife in five broad habitats (Costal and Seas, Woodland, Upland, Lowland and Urban) and so contribute to our knowledge of biodiversity in the region.
This is a restricted project – only members of our partner schools can upload images as Trappers, but we encourage the whole MammalWeb community to help out as Spotters in classifying the images.
